What must be done regarding Israel and Gaza

Immediately: The United States government must immediately send the U.S. Agency for International Development directly into Gaza. The Americans would be unarmed but would supply massive amounts of food and medicine for immediate relief and could finance and direct long-term reconstruction. If the Israelis want to keep their border with Gaza sealed, they could do so, but there should be no toleration of Israeli control over Gaza's coastline or airspace. Egypt, which for thirty years had been the second largest recipient of American aid next to Israel, must be required to keep its border with Gaza open. Any attack on Gaza while American aid workers are operating there would be an attack on the United States.

In the coming months: The same approach should then be taken in the West Bank, where Americans could dismantle all Israeli military installations in the territory, including check points and the apartheid wall that was built on Palestinian territory. This would end the occupation, and the Israeli military would be required to promptly vacate. If the Israelis choose to continue construction of the wall on their side of the border, it would be up to them. Again, the Americans would not be armed, nor would they interfere in the Palestinian political process. Some acceptable party other than the United States should help mediate between factions and assist in staging elections.

In the long term: Financial and military aid to Israel and Egypt must be ended. The national leaders of Israel and the United States that have been responsible for crimes against humanity, including but not limited to Olmert, Barak, Livni, Bush, Cheney, and Rice must be brought to trail. Israel must forfeit its nuclear weapons as part of the establishment of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East. Israel and the United States must pay reparations to the people of Palestine commensurate with the damage inflicted on them during the period of occupation. Failure to do so should result in expulsion from the various institutions of the international community and diplomatic isolation. There must be a process of truth and reconciliation.
