Titus North for Congress

While I don't claim to be a carbon copy of Dr. Paul, I share with him a commitment to the rule of law based on our Constitution and a non-interventionist foreign policy based on the Golden Rule. Like Dr. Paul, I want to restore habeas corpus and stop government intrusions into our privacy. Like Dr. Paul, I want to repeal the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act of 2007 that make it possible for the government to declare martial law. Like Dr. Paul, I want to bring our troops home not only from Iraq but from Japan and South Korean and elsewhere.

The selection of Joe Biden as his running mate is one more piece of evidence that the "change" Obama touts is not substantive change for the better. Biden has been outspoken in recent days about sending massive assistance to Georgia following its military assault on South Ossesia. If Biden gets his way, it will push us right into Cold War II. He was a supporter of the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

There is currently a resolution before Congress aimed at pressuring Iran (H. CON. RES. 362) that calls on the President to take a number of aggressive actions, including the imposition of a partial land, sea, and air blockade. Such action under international law would be an act of war. We know there are elements within the administration that are hell-bent on war with Iran, and we need Congress to restrain them, not unleash them.

When the Democrats challenged our petitions in 2006, Titus and his volunteers pitched a tent in a state park outside Harrisburg and went into the state capital day after day for weeks in order to prove, one by one, that the signatures on his petitions were valid. As a result, Titus became the only candidate in Pennsylvania to overcome a petition challenge. Here is the story:

Hello everyone,
Once again it is an election year, and once again we face the same problems of war without end, people without health care, a Congress without a backbone, and political leadership without the ability or will to face up to an environmental crisis. Now add to that an economy on the brink of disaster. Two years ago with the support of the Allegheny County Green Party and the people of the 14th Congressional District I managed to get on the ballot and stay on the ballot, providing 17,720 voters the opportunity to express themselves against the war and for a more just society.

The subprime crisis poses a huge threat to our economic well-being. If not handled correctly, it could feed into a vicious cycle of foreclosures, falling land prices, falling consumption, layoffs, and bankruptcies. The first priority must be to try to keep people in their houses. International and financial market confidence in the American economy has already eroded significantly, and things could get much, much worse.

Titus North will again seek election to the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 14th District. His campaign turned in over 5000 signatures from people wanting a Green alternative. In 2006 he was the only candidate in Pennsylvania to defeat a petition challenge and went on to win 17,720 votes in one of the best showings by a third-party Congressional candidate in the nation. His campaign calls for a foreign policy based on the Golden Rule and respect for the Constitution at home.
